Gone
by: Michael Grant
What if one day, all of a sudden every adult disappeared. No more parents or teachers.
Everyone 15 years and older just disappears.
One moment they're here, the next they're GONE.
What would all these kids do? What would you do?

Lord of the Flies
by: William Golding
Like the previous book this story is about a group of children (boys only this time) who are left behind without any adults. These boys end up, alone, on a deserted island.
How will they cope? What kind of community will they build?
It is also interesting to compare this classic, which was written in the 1930's, to a similar and more modern story like "Gone". Can you see the similarities?

Brave New world
by: Aldous Huxley
This classic tells the story of a world where no children are born in a natural way and everyone belongs to everyone else, where consumerism is declared the ultimate goal, nature is a strange and ugly thing and pills to keep you in a daze are prescribed to everyone. Dark tale, written in the 1930's. Read it and find out how much has turned out to be true.

The Road
by: Cormac McCarthy
America is burned, the landscape is nothing but ashes. The world as we know it is no more. Few people are left and survivial is hard.
Down these deserted, cold, hunmgry and dangerous roads travel a father and his son. They have nothing but a gun to defend themselves against people who try to steal the little they have, which is a shopping cart with some food and the clothes on their back.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
by: K. Dick
This book could also be labelled as a science fiction book.
The story takes place in a world that has been devestated by war. Few people remain in an unfriendly world and they live together with Androids. Even animals aren't real anymore and the ultimate dream is owning a live animal.
Main character is Rick, whose job it is to track down and "retire" renegade Androids. As the story unfolds Rick finds it ever more difficult to carry out his job, since these androids seem quite human.
The concept of this story was used for the film "Blade Runner".
