55BC - 450 AD
Roman Rule.
410 AD
The Roman army leaves Britiain.
The British are left to fend for themselves and soon, they are set upon by the other British tribes like the Picts and the Scots.

ca. 450 - 1066 AD
Anglo-Saxon period.
793 AD
One of the first raids by the Vikings. This introduced a period of raids and eventually occupation by the Vikings, known as the Danes. The period in which the Danes ruled over a large part of Britain is known as the Dane law. There were also a number of Danish Kings before Alfred became one of the last Anglo-Saxon kings and defeated the Danes in 781. Alfred also promoted learning once more and ordered the bible to be translated into English for the first time. After Alfred there were a number of Danish kings again.
1066 AD
Harold becomes king. He is the last Anglo-Saxon king. Soon after he becomes king he has to defend his kingship against both the Vikings and the Norman duke William.
